“We don’t hire editors anymore. We hire content strategists.”

So says Meredith publishing president Jack Griffin.

From AP: “The U.S. religious marketplace is extremely volatile, with nearly half of American adults leaving the faith tradition of their upbringing to either switch allegiances or abandon religious affiliation altogether, a new survey finds.” Click here for the story from CNN.

Some highlights:

• “mainline Protestant churches are in decline, non-denominational churches are gaining and the ranks of the unaffiliated are growing”
• “One in four adults ages 18 to 29 claim no affiliation with a religious institution.”
• “More than one-quarter of American adults have left the faith of their childhood for another religion or no religion at all”
• 44% have switched denominations
• “The Roman Catholic Church has lost more members than any faith tradition because of affiliation swapping”
• “Hindus claimed the highest retention of childhood members, at 84 percent”
• “The group with the worst retention is one of the fastest growing — Jehovah’s Witnesses” (only 37 percent remain in the faith)

I got blog tagged by my writer friend Jason, so here are the rules and my list.

The rules:

1. Link to the person that tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself.
4. Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs.
5. Let each random person know they have been tagged.

————–

With that, here are six non-important things, habits, and/or quirks about me:

1. I ate chocolate in some form in every meal yesterday. I’m not proud, but it is Valentine’s week!

2. I buy low-fat brown sugar Pop-Tarts in bulk. At least they’re not chocolate!

3. I once appeared in a dcTalk rap video when they came to my school when I was in fifth grade. I was wearing a white skirt with red anchors my mother had sewed for me. My bangs were in a tidal wave-esque shape.

4. I (try) to keep up four blogs. (So I’ll keep this short).

5. I get afraid of the dark after watching “Law & Order.”

6. Sometimes I watch television programs designed for my infant even when she’s not in the room.

Tag — you’re it!
